Frequently asked questions
Gut health questions,
answered
Struggling with persistent bloating, gas or digestive symptoms despite eating a clean diet? This is the gut health practice of Joana Amram, a registered Nutritional Therapist offering root-cause support online worldwide and in person in Lisbon and Estoril.
Rather than masking symptoms, the work starts with your full health history to identify the functional imbalances commonly associated with them — SIBO, intestinal permeability, dysbiosis, food sensitivities — and builds a wellness protocol shaped around your body.
General & practice overview
What nutritional therapy is, and where it sits alongside your medical care.
What is a gut health nutritional therapist?
A practitioner who looks for the root-cause patterns behind chronic digestive symptoms. The work combines personalised nutrition, targeted supplements and lifestyle shifts to help rebuild overall gut function — rather than managing one symptom at a time.
How is this different from seeing a gastroenterologist?
A gastroenterologist is a medical doctor who investigates and manages digestive disease. A nutritional therapist works alongside that care, focusing on the underlying functional triggers commonly associated with ongoing symptoms — slow motility, low stomach acid, dysbiosis — and on the diet and lifestyle changes that may support them.
What can you help support?
The practice mainly works with people dealing with SIBO, IBS, chronic bloating, acid reflux, constipation, food sensitivities, intestinal permeability (leaky gut) and gut-related skin flare-ups.

What you receive, and how to start before booking.
What does a personalised protocol look like?
Every protocol is built around your own sensitivities, history and routine. It sets out the nutritional changes to make, the functional supplements suggested, and the stress and sleep adjustments that support them.
Can I order the recommended supplements if I live outside Portugal?
Yes. Professional-grade supplements can be shipped to most countries.
Can I find out what may be driving my gut symptoms before booking?
Yes. There is a free two-minute gut root-cause quiz on the website that screens for the most common imbalance patterns.
